Description
Clomiphene citrate belongs to the triphenylethylene group and is classified as a selective estrogen receptor modulator with mixed agonist and antagonistic properties. It acts as an antiestrogen by blocking estrogen action in most tissues. However, in bone tissue, it activates estrogen receptors, making it useful in preventing osteoporosis.
Mechanism of Action
In men, clomiphene citrate acts as an antiestrogen by interfering with estrogen's negative feedback to the hypothalamus. This stimulates increased production of gonadoliberin (GnRH), which in turn increases the production of luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) by the pituitary gland. This cascade ultimately leads to enhanced testosterone synthesis and sperm production in the testicles.
Clomiphene citrate acts on estrogen receptors in the pituitary gland and ovaries. By binding to these receptors, it disrupts the negative feedback mechanism of estrogens. Normally, estrogens reduce the production of FSH and LH by the pituitary gland. However, when taking clomiphene citrate, this inhibition is bypassed. Clomiphene citrate does not directly affect estrogen levels in the blood. It acts as an antagonist to estrogens, eliminating their inhibitory effect on the hypothalamus and pituitary gland, thereby facilitating their function's faster restoration.
Usage Guidelines
For post-cycle recovery, the dosage of clomiphene citrate may vary depending on the severity of suppression. Typically, dosages range from up to 150 mg in the initial days, gradually tapering down to 50-25 mg over two weeks. Adjustments can be made based on laboratory tests. For lighter cycles, such as those with oxandrolone solo, a dosage of 50 mg in the first week and 25 mg in the second week may be sufficient. However, it is essential to consider each case individually.
For therapy to increase testosterone levels, a daily dosage of 50 to 25 mg is common, with adjustments based on test results. Many men over the age of 35 find a daily dosage of 25 mg satisfactory, experiencing increased testosterone levels, libido, and energy without encountering side effects.
