Description
Anastrozole is a potent and highly selective third-generation non-steroidal antiaromatase drug. Originally developed as an antineoplastic medication for the treatment of malignant breast tumors, aromatase inhibitors are now utilized by men to reduce estrogen levels in the blood and increase their own testosterone and gonadotropic hormones. By inhibiting the aromatization process, Anastrozole prevents the conversion of testosterone into estrogen, which can lead to negative effects on the brain and hypothalamus, resulting in reduced luteinizing hormone secretion and testosterone production.
While Anastrozole cannot directly reduce elevated estradiol levels, it effectively inhibits further estrogen formation. In bodybuilding, aromatase inhibitors are commonly used during anabolic steroid cycles, particularly when using steroids that undergo aromatization such as testosterone and its derivatives like methandrostenolone and methyltestosterone.
It's important to note that a moderate concentration of estrogens is beneficial for muscle growth, mood, and libido. Therefore, prophylactic dosages are recommended to maintain the necessary estrogen levels for men.
An optimal approach involves monitoring estradiol levels every 10-14 days during the use of anabolic steroids with short half-lives (e.g., testosterone propionate, methandrostenolone) or after 3-4 weeks when using long-estered compounds (e.g., enanthate, sustanon, cypionate). The initial dosage of Anastrozole is typically 0.5 mg every other day, followed by a follow-up estradiol analysis after 10 days to adjust the dosage accordingly. High dosages of aromatase inhibitors can excessively suppress estrogen levels, leading to potential side effects.
Dosage
Anastrozole is commonly used at a daily dose of 1 mg, resulting in an 80% decrease in estradiol levels in the blood according to clinical studies and a 98.1% decrease in experimental studies. Typically, Anastrozole is started at 0.5 mg every second day, with the frequency of administration adjusted based on the severity of aromatization. Dosage adjustments should be made based on blood test results.
